Dysport® and BOTOX® are used to reduce the appearance of frown lines and wrinkles, resulting in a fresh, youthful appearance. While they are both neuromodulators and designed to relax the facial muscles that cause certain types of wrinkles, there are some differences between the two treatments. In many cases, Dysport® can offer some advantages over BOTOX®.
Both treatments involve injectable formulas which contain a purified protein solution. Once the formula is injected into the target facial muscles, it temporarily relaxes the muscles. BOTOX® can take up to five days to completely relax the muscles, whereas Dysport® usually only takes about two – four days to accomplish this goal. Additionally, treatment studies have shown that Dysport® is better than BOTOX® at diminishing the appearance of crow’s feet, and provides a noticeable advantage for wrinkle shortening. It is also known to last longer than BOTOX®.
An important thing to remember when pricing the two treatments is that the unit of measurement used for procedures is not the same. The Dysport® formula features a smaller structure; subsequently, more product will be required during treatment. However, the cost per unit for this product is typically less than the cost per unit of BOTOX®. Therefore, the cost of the treatment should be about the same whether Dysport® or BOTOX® is used.
Many of our clients have enjoyed long-lasting results from Dysport®. Although this product offers several advantages over BOTOX®, both treatments accomplish the same goal, and in most cases, choosing the best treatment comes down to preference. When choosing a treatment, you must decide what benefits are important to you.
